Guitar Scales Practice — Open Position and Pentatonic

Scales can improve your familiarity with the fretboard and the coordination between fretting and picking hands. This library starts with open-position exercises and continues with pentatonic shapes, connected positions and sequences. The goal is not to race through notes, but to play them evenly and hear the pattern.

How to practise

  1. Start with a one-octave C major scale in open position at 60 BPM.
  2. Follow the displayed fingering and alternate down and up picking strokes without tensing your hand.
  3. Play ascending and descending notes cleanly, then move to pentatonic patterns when ready.

Practise at your own pace

Practise clear notes, relaxed movement and both hands together.

Replay as often as you need. You can mark exercises as practiced in the main library and save your progress locally in your browser. Every level stays open, even if you have never used the site before.

What to try next: Use the rhythm section for timekeeping practice and fingerpicking for separate right-hand coordination.
