Guitar Chord Change Exercises for Beginners

Changing chords while keeping time is one of the most useful skills for accompanying songs. Start with a familiar two-chord sequence such as Em and Am, then build toward longer combinations and barre chords. The videos show the current and upcoming chord, so you can prepare your fingers instead of guessing what comes next.

How to practise

  1. Form both chord shapes slowly without the video. Check which fingers can move together.
  2. Play the exercise and follow the beat indicator. Aim for a clean change rather than an impressive speed.
  3. Repeat the same pattern until you can keep the pulse. Then choose another chord pair or sequence.

Practise at your own pace

Build clean changes before trying to play faster.

Replay as often as you need. You can mark exercises as practiced in the main library and save your progress locally in your browser. Every level stays open, even if you have never used the site before.

What to try next: Try a basic strumming pattern after you can change chords without stopping.
